Nashua, New Hampshire, USA, October 29, 2012 – Kentico Software (www.kentico.com), the Web Content and Customer Experience Management vendor, announces the successful planting of 126 trees as part of their Trees for Bugs initiative, in which the company plants a tree for every bug found in its software.
“The Kentico Trees for Bugs initiative embodies our commitment to community openness and the quality of our software,” commented Petr Palas, CEO and Founder of Kentico Software. “Currently running over 15,000 websites worldwide, each new version of Kentico brings a multitude of new industry-leading features whilst maintaining an industry-low bug count. Our 24/7 support services that respond to over 98% of tickets within 24 hours, and our unique 7-day-bug-fixing policy mean we can ensure our product’s reliability, security and robustness.”
Saturday, October 27, 2012 saw the planting of 126 trees in the town of Ždánice, Czech Republic as part of Kentico’s Trees for Bugs initiative. Started in 2009, the initiative involves the Kentico Team volunteering their free time twice a year to plant trees for every bug found in the most recent version of Kentico CMS. Each tree bears the name of the person to whom it is dedicated and can be found in the Kentico Trees for Bugs Tree Gallery and on the tree map.
Supplementing the efforts of Kentico’s Bughunter tool and in-house testers, users of Kentico CMS are encouraged to report potential bugs for investigation. Not only does the company promise to fix any confirmed bug within 7 working days, but it promises to plant a tree in the name of the bug-finder. With a current 70 modules and 400 web parts, testing is an important part of the development process in order to keep the number of bugs as low as possible.
“Maintaining this low level of bugs in our software, which is in a constant state of upgrade and improvement, is no easy task, but we have developed a method for testing that ensures this satisfying result,” remarked Lukáš Martinák, QA Coordinator at Kentico Software. “Whereas we used to have a team overseeing all testing in “on-the-fly” cooperation, we now have two dedicated testers per development team who are devoted to and specialize in the features that their team produces, resulting in greater ownership and cohesion in our delivery of a quality and dependable product.”
This fall’s event was enjoyed by 50 Kentico staff and their families who welcomed the help of Jirí Francek (and family) of Dragon bits, Czech-based Kentico Solution Partner. The unfavorable weather made for a strong team approach to the goal and a pleasant social atmosphere in the post-planting assemblage.
A dedicated website to the initiative, Trees for Bugs, not only keeps the community informed as to the current bug count, but also allocates bug penalties to the responsible teams. In the country standings of client bug-finders, the USA stands well ahead, followed by the UK and the Netherlands. Also each bug-discoverer can search by name to find a photo and actual location of their tree(s).
