Telerik Sitefinity 5.3 Adds Multilingual Support for Custom Content Modules, Ecommerce Enhancements, and More

WALTHAM, MA, December 18, 2012 – Telerik, an end-to-end provider of software application, lifecycle and content management solutions, today announced several key enhancements to its award-winning ASP.NET Content Management System (CMS), Sitefinity. These include multilingual support for the custom content Module Builder, Ecommerce enhancements including Inventory Management and Discounts and Promotions, and improved Workflow and Template functionally for Shared Content. The 5.3 release continues Telerik’s commitment to deliver the most advanced web content management platform to developers, marketing end-users and IT managers, while maintaining an extreme focus on usability and productivity.

  • Multilingual Support for the Module Builder
Many organizations need to create custom content types to address specific online business needs. The Sitefinity Module Builder makes it possible, and Sitefinity 5.3 adds further flexibility as users can now create these custom content types in multiple languages. Users can also add multilingual fields to custom content types and serve the content in any site visitor’s desired language.

  • Shared Content in Templates
The 5.3 release includes the number 1 requested enhancement in the Sitefinity Public Issue Tracker. While sharing content blocks is nothing new in Sitefinity, it had been confined to Pages. Now, content authors can also use shared content blocks in Templates. Define the content block once, and reuse the template throughout the site and across Templates by building new templates off of the original.

  • Intelligent Workflow for Shared Content
The enhanced Sitefinity Workflow feature provides great control over which content has been approved by the organization to publish. In an age of Tweeting before thinking, it is a well needed safeguard. Workflow typically involves one or more internal checks, but can be many more depending on the size of your organization. When e extended to account for Shared Content used on hundreds of pages and needing many layers of approvals, the workflow may grind to a halt. Sitefinity 5.3 provides intelligent workflows for Shared Content, whereby updates can bypass workflows—applying the changes directly to each page. This simplifies page management and content reuse by avoiding the needless invocation of workflows when Shared Content is modified. One workflow doesn’t fit all Shared Content, and Sitefinity 5.3 accommodates this.

  • Granular Permissions for Shared Content
Granular permissions allow administrators to determine exactly who (through users or roles) can edit each Shared Content item. In the past, anyone logged into Sitefinity's backend could edit any Shared Content item. The new Granular Shared Content Permissions will enable content administrators to reuse content while maintaining tight control over who can edit that Shared Content.

  • New Ecommerce Features
Sitefinity 5.3 includes Ecommerce Inventory Management, the community’s most requested feature enhancement. Merchants can now track inventory quantities and turn-off sales once inventory is depleted. Using the Sitefinity API, merchants can accomplish many new tasks from importing data from other inventory management systems, to customizing their inventory notifications. With Sitefinity 5.3, merchants now have the ability to limit the number of times a discount is applied by a specific number or customer segment. Merchants can also target offers to customer segments based upon explicit customer profiles or types that they define.
  • Performance Optimizations

Sitefinity 5.3 optimizes overall performance to deliver a better experience for those using the system to build pages and create/edit content. Through enhancements to OpenAccess and utilization of sequential GUIDs, database index fragmentation is reduced while the operation of the administrative interface is sped up. These enhancements will be particularly noticeable for websites needing to support multiple simultaneous content authors.

  • Site Sync Improvements
Gain flexibility, efficiency, and control by keeping data synchronized between development, staging, and production sites with Sitefinity Site Sync. Whether  updating one content type or the whole website, memory and speed improvements make synchronizing large amounts of data or media files faster in Sitefinity 5.3. Additionally, new synchronization logs make it easier to review what, when, and which data has been synchronized. Site Sync is available in the Sitefinity Enterprise Edition, or as an add-on Module to the Professional Edition.
